Haiku #20

Summer is now here
As temps climb to the nineties.
Brushfires scourge the land.

The sweet rain remains
Aloft from parched and hard soil.
Smoke burns my nostrils.

Grass fades to yellow.
With each step it crackles and
Breaks to the bare earth.

Where is the water
That falls each hot afternoon--
Dancing with the storms?
